On the afternoon of July 3, local time, President Xi Jinping met with Uzbekistan’s President Mirziyoyev in Astana before attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.

President Xi emphasized the need for both parties to deepen the cooperation in building the “Belt and Road”, implement long-term plans for economic, trade, and investment cooperation, accelerate the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, and collaborate in the fields of PV, wind power, and new energy vehicles.

China Develops Clean Energy to Build a Green Silk Road with its Partners

Developing clean energy to build a green Silk Road is a common theme in high-level diplomacy and a recent highlight of cooperation between China and Uzbekistan. China is strengthening ecological and environmental protection governance, accelerating the transformation to green and low-carbon development, and working with BRI countries to jointly build a “green Silk Road”. This effort aims to promote environmental protection, address climate change, implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and provide experiences and pathways for participating countries.

Uzbekistan, known as the “Pearl of Central Asia” along the Silk Road Economic Belt, is a significant participant in the “Belt and Road” initiative. As one of the countries with rapid economic and population growth in the Euro-Asia region, Uzbekistan’s electricity demand is increasing. Experts estimate that, by 2030, Uzbekistan’s national electricity demand will have reached 120 billion kilowatt-hours. Additionally, as a signatory to the Paris Agreement, Uzbekistan is striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And the green transition has become the necessary path for it to overcome its energy challenges.

Tongwei’s High-efficiency Modules Illuminate the “Pearl of Central Asia”

As one of the representatives of Chinese PV enterprises, Tongwei has been actively engaging with the Uzbekistan government departments and businesses to establish connections for the application and promotion of green energy. In February 2023, officials of local governments and business representatives from Uzbekistan visited TW Solar to witness Tongwei’s “intelligent” manufacturing strength in the PV field. In May of the same year, during the Chinese Entrepreneurs Roundtable, both parties further promoted their cooperation intentions and engaged in friendly discussions on relevant cooperation areas, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration development.

From May 14 to 16 this year, Tongwei showcased its module products, such as TNC-G12R and THC-G12, at the 17th International Exhibition of Energy in Uzbekistan, where high-power, high-efficiency module products received widespread recognition from on-site customers. Preliminary cooperation intentions were reached with many potential customers for cooperation in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

During the exhibition, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and representatives from the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) visited the Tongwei booth to explore the possibilities of their future cooperation on energy.

By Expanding the Global “Friendship Networks”, China’s PV Industry Ushers in a New Chapter

With an existing module capacity of 75GW, Tongwei ranks among the top five globally in terms of shipments. Tongwei’s PV products have “illuminated footprints” in more than 40 countries and regions worldwide. In just the first half of this year, Tongwei modules have been showcased at international energy exhibitions in France, Spain, Poland, Italy, Japan, and Germany, demonstrating high-efficiency and high-quality Tongwei “intelligent manufacturing” products to global customers.

In terms of the partnership, Tongwei has signed strategic cooperation agreements with companies such as EEN, Memodo, Solfinity, KPSolar Group SMLLC, and PVO International.

Looking ahead, Tongwei will continue to practice the concept of green development, leading with technological innovation to create new quality productive forces of new energy for green energy transition in China and globally, contributing to the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
